I am in total disagreement with the editor of the Springwater News when he denies the reality of climate change in his February 18th musings.

Climate change is real, it is caused by human activity and it needs to be reversed if we are to continue to exist as a human race on this planet. For over 15 years this has been the position of highly respected climate scientists all over the world, including Canada’s David Suzuki and the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Climate change deniers, on the other hand, are generally not climate scientists; rather than publish in peer reviews and debate at conferences, they focus their attention on the media and the general public. They receive significant funding from coal and oil companies, who would benefit from a reversal of the trend away from non-renewable energy.

We can’t allow ill-informed climate change deniers to stop us from beginning the changes we need to make now. That would be like doing nothing about smoking because a few doctors disagree that it causes lung cancer.
