Press Release: NDP Candidate Katy Austin

Simcoe Grey NDP Riding Association is pleased to announce that Katy Austin, retired teacher, was acclaimed as the Simcoe Grey NDP Federal Candidate at the September 28, 2009 nomination meeting.

Austin is a longtime supporter of the fight against Dumpsite 41 and sits on the Zero Waste Simcoe Board of Directors. She is a member of the Elmvale Library Board and is a former ETFO union steward.

Austin, a seasoned candidate believes that a bid for a majority government by both the Liberals and Conservatives is not in the best interest of Canadian taxpayers at this time.

Austin believes that money spent on another election would be better directed to improving health care, creating a national daycare program and improving employment insurance benefits for Canadians who need them in these difficult economic times, not on political posturing.

“In order for government to work for Canadians, focus must return to what is good for Canadians, not on what will gain power for parties”, says Austin.
