Why Not a Coalition Government?

Michael Ignatieff will need the support of the opposition parties this month to defeat the Conservative government. If he wins a minority government victory after a fall election, he will still need their support to stay in power.  Why not save us all a lot of money and headache?  He could defeat the Conservatives, then ask the governor general for permission to form a coalition government with the NDP and the Bloc.  Otherwise, he takes the risk that disgruntled Canadians may elect a Conservative majority (heaven forbid!).  Otherwise, it appears he’s more interested in regaining power for his party than in making government work.
